Day 3 Bonding Glass

I did get to squeeze in a little time today and got another glass piece bonded.

 Yesterday was Day 2 in bonding the color glass pieces on top of the clear bevels.  I was able to work an hour and completed 2 of the green ones.

 

I am hoping to get 1 piece bonded today.  

Interior Door Stained Glass Update

 I completed the last batch of bevels, pieced together more of the panel.  

I have cut the glass for the remaining 7 pieces that need beveling.  After those are completed then I will be able to finish assembling the panel.

Once these are all completed I will go back to piecing together the panel in certain sections until I get to a point where I will need to bevel more shapes.  

Stained Glass Star is Completed!

 Stained Glass of the Dallas Cowboys star is now completed:

Glass Pieces Beveled, Ready for Bonding

 While the putty is setting for a week, here are the blue pieces being cut and beveled:

Stained Glass Panel Pieced Together and Soldered

 Glass panel is coming together nicely! Top picture shows it all pieced together, 2nd image is after soldering all joints front and back, bottom two are showing the putty which fills in gaps in the came channel which will harden and traditionally was used as a sealer for the elements since these were the existing window up until a certain time period.  The last panel also shows the whiting which helps the putty to dry faster as well as absorbing oils from the putty. Have to let it set for a week before cleaning, in the meantime blue glass pieces cut in the shape of the center of each clear bevel of the star will be beveled and be ready for bonding on top once the panel is cleaned.

 Clear bevels completed after 4 stages, roughing, smoothing, pre polish and polish:

First image shows the smoothing and pre polish stages, the bottom image shows polished stage.

The next step was to cut the 4 corner blue pieces and bevel a couple of edges to transition with the adjacent clear bevels and to tie in with the triangular shapes in the star.

Transom Panel Completed and Installed!

The arched transom stained glass panel that I have been showing different stages of is now completed and installed.

Here is a picture of the transom window above the client's front door.

What a difference it made having the stained glass in place.  It softens up the grids, the lighting and really plays with the light.  The colors compliment the surroundings, the different wood tones, colors they have in their décor.  I am very pleased with the results as are the client.

Bevels for Transom Window Completed

These are just a few of the bevels that I have been working on for the transom window. Now that these are completed I will begin fabricating the panel.  

Before piecing together the panel I lay out the bevels and draw the actual shape to make sure everything will fit correctly and the shape is drawn correctly.  Sometimes I have to grind some edges of the glass due to shards sticking out from the scoring/breaking process which will change the shape slightly.

This is the first step, roughing stage, to get the angle and width of the bevel created.  The next 3 steps are smoothing, pre polish and polish stages to get rid of the scratches in the glass.

Reinvigorating a Bathroom Window!

After the Artist Studio Tour last year, someone who attended the tour called and asked for me to take a look at a bathroom window in their home that needed reinvigorating.  They had a dual pane slider and they had a shade that covered all the time because they needed privacy, but it blocked the light which they wanted.  We discussed a glass panel to be mounted on the lower half instead of the whole window so they could still open it when needed. They wanted a flowing design tying into the trees in the background.

Designing/Fabricating Stained Glass for Entryway part 2

Last post I showed the design for an entryway with and without color.  The next several posts will be showing different steps in the fabrication process. This step is showing some of the color and clear pieces that have been hand beveled.
