Northern Lights Stained Glass Installed!

The Northern Lights Panel is installed!

The second picture shows before the installation. This is an interior space that has an opening between 2 rooms.  A ledge was built in to support the stained glass.

The following images are different angles and lighting

It is so much fun to see how the glass captures the different lighting and how it the glass and light changes when viewing from different areas of the rooms.

Here are some detail shots showing the beveled glass.

The bottom 2 are from the backside of the panel.

I hope you have enjoyed seeing the process of this project and the final result.

Bonding Green Beveled Glass- Northern Lights Window

Bonding the green triangles that have been beveled onto the clear beveled triangles throughout the design.

The picture with the exacto knife shows how the UV adhesive oozes out and once it is hardened I cut it and clean up area.  The UV lamp is then placed back down for another 3 minutes to fully cure the adhesive. It is a painstaking process but the end results are quite stunning.

Beveling Final Pieces for Northern Lights project

Beveling the green colors that will be bonded on top of the clear bevels throughout the design.  Next is cleaning the panel then bonding these triangles.

Radio Ad

I recently did a radio ad on All Classical Portland radio station.  I did something a little different than what I had done in the past.  Usually, I focus only on the product of what I do which is not what I really offer.  Being on radio, the basic info of the product is important and I wanted to add the emotion of what I offer in the ad.  After giving a few samples and knowing that it had to be concise, the person who pulled it all together did a great job, I thought.

"Today's broadcast is made possible in part by painter and stained glass artist Isaac D Smith- using sparkling light and radiant color to create visual symphonies for the soul.  You can see his work at Isaacdsmith dot com"

It stirs the emotional aspect as well as informing what I do in a concise manner. Nice to try something a little different

Puttying the Northern Lights Panel

After cutting out the green triangles, I putty both sides of the panel and have to let it set for a couple of weeks before cleaning.  While it sets I will be beveling the green triangles.

The putty/stained glass cement was traditionally used to weather proof the panel.  It is still done but is more to make the panel more solid and fill in the gap from the glass and came.  It is not needed as a weather sealer because the stained glass panel is not used as the only pane of glass for windows.
