New project- 8 Stained glass windows for a church

I am working on a project which entails 8 windows for a church in Spokane, WA.  The design was done by Joan Smith in Cour d Alene, ID and I helped a little with it.  Each panel is approximately 4ft by 28 inches.  The design starts with upper left image and all 4 follow each other in a diagonal line.  The design is mirrored making a total of 8 windows.

The next 2 images show the beginning steps of laying out the design and figuring out how to shape the glass that will be hand beveled.

Painting Completed

I enjoy the depth of the leaves.  I find it calming to look at.

Started new painting- untitled so far

Feels good to paint again.  I have really been fascinated by leaves, whenever I go out on walks with my daughter we go through an area with lots of different trees, it is very beautiful and peaceful.  I get caught up watching the leaves, how they move, their shapes, the sound they make when there is a breeze.

Stained Glass Designs #6 and 7 out of 7

These are the last 2 designs for the 2 panel kitchen windows.  I wanted something to contrast the geometric and to tie into the plants around the area.

Merry Christmas!

Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas and New Year.  May the new year bring you many blessings.

I will be showing the last 2 designs of the 2 window project and the progress and installed piece.  I have ideas for a large panel to suspend between two adjacent rooms to divide the area which I will begin designing soon.

Thank you for following and I look forward to great things to come.

Stained glass window design #4 and 5 of 7

I enjoy this design for the space, it works well either way.  If this design is chosen I think the top design would work better as there is a plant that hangs in the upper left area.

Stained glass window design #3 of 7

I like the clear reeded glass going in vertical and horizontal directions to give depth.  I envision the clear beveled triangles having beveled color glass bonded in the center of them.  The smaller triangles and slender triangles would also be colored glass.

Stained Glass 2 panel window design #2 of 7

Here is design #2.  Color is chosen later once the design is finalized.  The sections with the lines close together represents a clear textured glass called narrow reed.  This glass provides privacy yet allows light in.  I enjoy changing the direction the grain goes to give more depth and movement.

Stained Glass 2 panel window design #1

The following picture is of a kitchen window in which the client wants the inner two panels to have glass work inserted to give privacy from the neighbors but still allow light in.

I will be showing several designs that I came up with, not all will be shown to the client, just had different ideas I wanted to get down.  The following is design #1

Stained Glass Repair- last steps

Replace the outer u channel bar and solder the joints both front and back.

Fill in the putty/cement both front and back and I like to use a whiting to help the putty/cement to dry faster and to clean up oils (from solder flux and putty) off of the glass.

Once the putty/cement dry in a couple of days then clean the panel.

Stained glass repair, cont.

After removing the outer bar, the old putty/cement needs to be cleaned off the glass pieces.  In order to get the glass that is cracked out I had to remove the adjoining good piece of glass.  The lower picture shows the putty/cement being cleaned out of the lead channels.
Re-cut the shape needed to replace the broken piece.
Put in the new piece and reinsert the other glass that was removed.

Stained glass repair- step 1

I have a stained glass panel that had a crack in one piece and I will show how it was repaired.

This is the panel standing 50 inches tall by 32 inches wide.  in the lower right hand corner a green piece had a crack in it.

Repairs can be very extensive because a lot of times you have to remove good pieces to get to the broken piece.  This one will not be too bad.

The first thing to do is cut through the solder joints joining the lead came from the outer bar, doing both front and back sides.  Also, you have to remove the outer bar that is joining the affected area, in this case I had to remove the lower right hand side outer bar from the bottom of the fingers to the bottom of the panel.

Most recent painting- Autumn Leaf

I really enjoyed painting this, capturing the feeling of fall, the folds, the movement.

Father's Day

I am a father to two beautiful and wonderful children. I am so grateful for them and am very proud of them.
I am also grateful to my father who gave so much of himself and showed how to be giving and generous with others.
Happy Father's Day to all you dads.

Window hanging glass piece

The design is the same as an earlier piece but I used different glass and the bevels are different.  This has a different feel from the earlier piece.
