"Take your child to work",day

Today, I have had the pleasure of my son joining me at work.  I showed him the process of designing a window for a client, how to figure out the square footage of a window, the business side of doing art, etc  We have been having fun!
He has learned that there is a lot to the process of creating the completed project.

Stained Glass and Oil Painting Combination- an Experiment

I am trying something different, something I have not seen before and thought I would give it a shot and see how it turns out.  I have been mulling over this for quite awhile and it is finally coming together in my mind.  The idea is of an ocean wave flowing off of a canvas.  Portions of the design would be oil painted and others would be glass flowing off the space.
This is the basic concept sketched out.

I have the glass all picked out and am excited about it.

Church windows completed!

This was an 8 window project for St Peters catholic church in Spokane, WA.  As noted earlier in previous posts about the process I noted that the design was by Joan Smith in Coer d Alene, ID which I also gave input into the design and I fabricated the windows.
They are beautiful in the space which is pretty high up in the entry way. The image depicts the Holy Spirit.  I enjoyed working with Joan and Andi from the church and am grateful for the opportunity to create these windows.

Enjoy!

The above image shows the panes reflected in glass.

This bottom one shows light scattering from the bevels and the colors/textures when the sun shines through.

Circular stained glass window completed !

Before and after installation.  Stained glass measures 46in diameter

I installed the circular window today and am very pleased with the results.  The above 2 images show before and after installation.  The next several images show the piece in different lighting and some closeups.  In the above image the reflection of the window is seen on the tub and tile work.  The client is very impressed and pleased with the window.  I incorporated hand beveled glass and different clear textured glass to give privacy and light play.  When the sun shines on it the colors and textures of the glass will dance all over the walls and glass shower.

New project- 8 Stained glass windows for a church

I am working on a project which entails 8 windows for a church in Spokane, WA.  The design was done by Joan Smith in Cour d Alene, ID and I helped a little with it.  Each panel is approximately 4ft by 28 inches.  The design starts with upper left image and all 4 follow each other in a diagonal line.  The design is mirrored making a total of 8 windows.

The next 2 images show the beginning steps of laying out the design and figuring out how to shape the glass that will be hand beveled.

Painting Completed

I enjoy the depth of the leaves.  I find it calming to look at.

Started new painting- untitled so far

Feels good to paint again.  I have really been fascinated by leaves, whenever I go out on walks with my daughter we go through an area with lots of different trees, it is very beautiful and peaceful.  I get caught up watching the leaves, how they move, their shapes, the sound they make when there is a breeze.
