2 Abstract Designs; Geometric design in process

Geometric design in process.  Piecing together the beveled triangles, adding a nice clear piece with white streaks, soldering the joints together as well as the external came.

Image below: Figuring out the color combo for the top of the triangles.

Puttying to fill in the space in the came/glass.

I bonded on the beveled color pieces using Ultra Violet adhesive.

2 Abstract Designs, Geometric and Flowing

The first picture shows sketches of a couple of couple of designs on blue paper and the finished designs drawn out. I have started on the geometrical design on the right.  The next several pics show the beveling in process and completed. The next to last pic shows pre polish on 2 sides and the polished step on the top side.

Studio Tour!

Last weekend was the Clark County Open Studio Tour.  I had fun showing my work and meeting lots of people.  Some people who came last year also came this year, it was good to see them again.
I displayed both glass and paintings.  Small glass panels are for sale as well as paintings which make for great gifts!

Entry Way Stained Glass Installed!

This project turned out amazing!

The client is thrilled, stating:   "It’s all we wanted and more. And everyone who has had their hands on this, from Stefan at the door store to the installer to the finisher has been thrilled to be a part of it. A lot of care in this piece. I can’t think of a better way to enter our home. Thank you!"

The following images are what the Entryway looked like before replacing with the above.

Designing/Fabricatiing Stained Glass for Entryway, part 3

Here is the progression on fabricating the front door panel.  The second 2 pics show details of a couple of glass textures. The last 2 pics also show the joints- the next step is soldering the joints both the front and backside of the panel.

Designing/Fabricating Stained Glass for Entryway part 2

Last post I showed the design for an entryway with and without color.  The next several posts will be showing different steps in the fabrication process. This step is showing some of the color and clear pieces that have been hand beveled. If you missed seeing a previous post about hand beveling glass here is a link to the video demonstrating a little of the beveling process youtu.be/823TMbZoNDE

Designing for Entryway

I have a client who is remodeling their entryway and want stained glass for the front door and two sidelights.  After discussing what elements they like, the flow of the space, colors and textures of glass I drew several designs and this is the one they chose.

Here is a diagram of what the new door and sidelight window framing will be:

The stained glass will be sandwiched between tempered glass, different details such as the dimensions of the stained glass will be different from the tempered glass; need measurements of the width of framing between the sidelight glass and front door glass so the design will line up correctly and other elements.

Here is the design with color added and textures of glass labled:

Glass Textures/colors Dancing

We have stained glass in our window close to our bathtub and the sun was shining through, casting colors and textures on the window casing and bathtub.  They move, change, and "dance" around.  This was beautiful to watch.

How to Create a Spectacular Entryway, Part 3

In this last part about stained glass in your entryway a big thing to look for is the details.
Does the design complement the surroundings, does it flow nicely with the space?  What type of glass is needed for privacy yet still allow light into the space?  How will the solder joints look?

These and other details I am constantly thinking of.  I also create hand beveled glass to add into the designs.  This adds more light play to the window.  To add another step I think about the width of the bevel to add more depth movement to the design (see below pic).

When you click on this image it should enlarge so you can see the solder details which are smooth and not small clumps.

You should want something that plays with and manipulates the light which adds interest to the space.

Adding stained glass to your entryway and other areas in your home will create a Spectacular space which you will enjoy for many years to come!

Stained Glass in Entryways

The first two images show before and after shots of the sidelight windows.  The client wanted the sidelights to have glasswork that ties into the door design.  I split the design in half and incorporated them into the sidelights.  The colors tie into the wood toned that were inside the home.

The next image is of an entryway with a design running from one sidelight to the other.  This made for an elegant entryway.

Wheat Fields and the Palouse Inspired Design

I was responding to how I was feeling of the wheat fields and the Palouse when I created this piece.  We lived in Spokane, WA for a few years and the rolling Palouse was very beautiful.
Blown glass as well as textured clear and colored glass were used along with hand beveled and bonded glass.

How to Create a Spectacular Entryway! Part 2

In the previous post I showed an example of sidelight windows that are in a lot of residential entry ways.  Here is an image of another with sidelight and transom.

All of these entrances are nice, have a lot of light coming in.  But what can be done to create something Spectacular?

This makes a huge difference in the entryway!  It gives privacy yet still allowing light in the space.  It ties into the angles of the staircase  inside and hand rails outside.  It changes as the light outside changes and when the sun shines in it creates textures and colors on the adjoining walls.

Here is the before and after images of the sidelights I showed in the previous post:

Here are other entrances that have had a dramatic improvements.  With each of these there is a wonderful sense of light play, elements that tie into the surrounding space and when needed, privacy without compromising the amount of light entering the space.  In the next and last part I will explain details to look for when designing for your entryway.
